Hi Bill
I hope you are well and have had a great journey since high school. I retired last March and now find tht retirement is the best job ever. I spent the first 10 years as an electrician for the CRI&P, then moved over to Deere Harvester for 5 years before the big layoffs happened in the 80s.
I then took a job in Holland, Michigan as an electrician then a maintenance supervisor for 10 years. During that time Lean Manufacturing was being accepted by manufactures, so after some training, and some successes in the department I managed I was asked to join a newly formed department at Haworth the Office a Furniture company I was working for. For the next 10 years I travelled from one manufacturing plant to the next implementing lean. Shanghai, Sydney, Australia, Allen, Germany and many places in North America.
It was a great time and I had the opportunity to meet many wonderful folks. The last 5 years before retirement I was asked by the VP of Quality to work with the Suppliers who had issues with providing the ramped up quality expectations.
Long before I reached 62 I had told my managers I would be retiring hoping I would be chosen for an early out package. No luck on that so I retired last March 28, 2 weeks before turning 62 and have been loving it ever since.
How about you? Will you be attending the class reunion this year?
